The Food and Drug Administration has approved an ingestible digital senor that can track physical health with the assertion that patients are not taking their medication regularly and need a tracking device inside their body to assist them in their medical care….Proteus Digital Health (PDH) released the Ingestion Event Marker (IEM) which was first approved in Europe. George Savage, co-founder and chief medical officer at PDH claims that this ushers in a new era of digital medicine that “shifts the paradigm.” The IEM, as small as a grain of sand, can be embedded in a pill, and ingested to monitor the patient and their bodily health. The device will collect measurements such as heart rate, body position and activity.
The IEM sends a signal to your smartphone; which then transmits the data to your doctor. Actual real time data about your biological make-up can be uploaded wirelessly. (source). |
Brain Cells Fused with Computer Chip
The line between living organisms and machines has just become a whole lot blurrier. European researchers have developed "neuro-chips" in which living brain cells and silicon circuits are coupled together. The achievement could one day enable the creation of sophisticated neural prostheses to treat neurological disorders or the development of organic computers that crunch numbers using living neurons. To create the neuro-chip, researchers squeezed more than 16,000 electronic transistors and hundreds of capacitors onto a silicon chip just 1 millimeter square in size. - https://www.livescience.com/681-brain-cells-fused-computer-chip.html - - http://www.foxnews.com/story/2006/03/29/brain-cells-fused-with-computer-chip.html - |

Brain sensor allows mind-control
A sensor implanted in a paralysed man's brain has enabled him to control objects by using his thoughts alone. The experimental set-up allowed the man, who has no limb movement at all, to open e-mail, play a computer game, and pinch a prosthetic hand's fingers. The US team behind the sensor hopes its technology can one day be incorporated into the body to restore the movement of paralysed limbs themselves. - http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/5167938.stm - |
Implantable RFID Microchips to Monitor Blood Sugar
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has granted Digital Angel Corporation (AMEX: DOC) a patent for its syringe-implantable glucose-sensing RFID microchip, Digital Angel announced today. The RFID microchip measures the glucose concentration levels of diabetic patients and will be marketed and distributed by Digital Angel’s sister company, VeriChip, as an extension to the company’s products benefiting people. - https://www.medgadget.com/2006/10/implantable_rfi.html - |

Scientists develop remote-controlled pigeon
The flight of a pigeon has been controlled for the first time by scientists who implanted microelectrodes into the bird’s brain. Although this feat of mind control sounds improbable, the research builds on developments in brain implant technology which have already seen scientists using hair-thin electrodes to guide the movements of fish, rats, mice and monkeys in research that is mostly driven by military and intelligence interests. - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1544015/Scientists-develop-remote-controlled-pigeon.html - |
Microchip to allow wallet-free drinking
A Scottish nightclub is about to become the first in Britain to offer its customers the chance to have a microchip implanted in their arm to save them carrying cash. The "digital wallet", the size of a grain of rice, guarantees entry to the club and allows customers to buy drinks on account. Brad Stevens, owner of Bar Soba in Glasgow, said his customers had responded enthusiastically to the idea. - https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/4194899/Microchip-to-allow-wallet-free-drinking.html - |

Would you get your travel card implanted into your HAND? 3,000 Swedish commuters are now using microchips to pay for their journeyWhen you're in a rush, it can be easy to forget your travel card on the way out of the house. But for around 3,000 commuters in Sweden, this isn't something to worry about. The brave commuters have futuristic microchip implants embedded into their hands to pay for their journey. But the technology raises security and privacy issues, as the data generated could be used to track people.

Microchip Implant to Link Your Health Records, Credit History, Social Security
... a tiny, passive microchip (the nation's first and only microchip cleared for patient identification by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration) and a secure, private online database that links you to your personal health record. Your Health Link is always with you and cannot be lost or stolen. That database can be accessed by doctors and nurses: About the size of a grain of rice, the microchip is inserted just under the skin and contains only a unique, 16-digit identifier. The microchip itself does not contain any other data other than this unique electronic ID, nor does it contain any Global Positioning System (GPS) tracking capabilities. And unlike conventional forms of identification, the Health Link cannot be lost, stolen, misplaced, or counterfeited. It is safe, secure, reversible, and always with you. - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/microchip-implant-to-link-your-health-records-credit-history-social-security/ - |

Tracking Junior With a Microchip
A Solusat executive said the terms of the agreement are still being hashed out."There are distinct projects on the table, but one form of finding (children) is by putting scanners in strategic locations where a search is being conducted for a VeriKid that has been reported missing," said Carlos Altamirano, Solusat's associate general director. The company envisions placing walk-through scanners – similar to metal-detector portals used in airports – in malls, bus stations and other areas where a missing child may appear. The chip also could be used to identify children who are found unconscious, drugged, dead or too young to identify themselves. - https://www.wired.com/2003/10/tracking-junior-with-a-microchip/ - |
MIT and Microsoft Research made a 'smart' tattoo that remotely controls your phone
A group of PhD students from the MIT Media Lab and researchers from Microsoft Research have come up with the ultimate wearable: a temporary tattoo that can turn into a touchpad, remotely control your smartphone, or share data using NFC.The technology, which is described on MIT's website and will be presented in full at a wearables symposium next month, is called DuoSkin. The researchers say you can design a circuit using any graphic software, stamp out the tattoo in gold leaf (which is conductive to electricity), and then apply other commodity materials and components that would make the tattoo interactive. - https://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2016/8/13/12460542/mit-microsoft-research-gold-leaf-smart-temporary-tattoo - |

You will get chipped — eventually
You will get chipped. It’s just a matter of time.In the aftermath of a Wisconsin firm embedding microchips in employees last week to ditch company badges and corporate logons, the Internet has entered into full-throated debate.Religious activists are so appalled, they’ve been penning nasty 1-star reviews of the company, Three Square Market, on Google, Glassdoor and social media. On the flip side, seemingly everyone else wants to know: Is this what real life is going to be like soon at work? Will I be chipped?“ It will happen to everybody,” says Noelle Chesley, 49, associate professor of sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. “But not this year, and not in 2018. Maybe not my generation, but certainly that of my kids.” - https://eu.usatoday.com/story/tech/2017/08/09/you-get-chipped-eventually/547336001/ - |
